FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES - Northwestern State University’s Office of Financial Aid is hosting a special program to assist prospective students and parents navigate the financial aid process. NSU is one of 12 statewide sites for Louisiana College Goal Sunday on Sunday, Feb. 10 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. The program will be held in the President’s Room of the Friedman Student Union and is for all Louisiana high school seniors, their families and also adults who need financial aid assistance for post-secondary education. There is no charge to attend. A $400 scholarship will be awarded to one person who attends.
According to NSU Director of Financial Aid Misti Adams, financial aid staff members will be available to explain the financial aid application process and give line by line assistance with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Those attending will be able to use the Student Union computer lab to complete and submit their FAFSA form on site. FAFSA must be completed in order to apply for state and federal aid including TOPS, Go Grants, Pell Grants, loans and other programs.
“The Free Application for Federal Student Aid can be a little intimidating at first, but we will be there to answer questions and make the process much easier,” said Adams. “Northwestern offers generous financial aid packages in addition to other state and federal programs and the entire process starts with the FAFSA.”
Those attending should bring identification along with W-2 forms, 2007 federal tax returns, bank statements and any other investment records that show income.
College Goal Sunday is sponsored by the Louisiana Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (LASFAA) and the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA) with funding from a Lumina Foundation for Education Grant.
