FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES - An appeals committee at Northwestern State University has concurred in the university's decision to terminate the employment of three faculty members.

Dr. Alvin Brossette, Dr. Glenn Moffett and Sherman Vogel were dismissed in December in the wake of a legislative audit report citing mismanagement of grant funds.

Under university tenure policies, the employees who were terminated have the right to appeal that action to a university committee. The seven-member committee made the decision to concur with the dismissal of the employees following two days of hearings this week.

Northwestern president Dr. Randall Webb will submit the report of the appeals committee to the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System as support for his recommendation to finalize termination of the employees.

As part of due process procedures for faculty members who are terminated, the employees now have 30 days to decide whether to appeal their termination to the university's governing board.

Brossette was Dean of Continuing Education and Moffett and Vogel were assistant professors of electronic engineering technology. The three faculty members were involved in the administration of a work force training grant.

NSU Provost and Vice-President for Academic Affairs Dr. Thomas A. Burns said the audit report on the grant stated that laws related to theft, malfeasance in office and filing false public records were possibly violated. The report has been submitted to the Natchitoches Parish District Attorney for review.
