NATCHITOCHES-Northwestern State University's Office of Electronic and Continuing Education will offer non-credit classes in computer repair, scuba diving, travel French, tatting and pet first aid in September.
Basic computer repair will be taught on Sept. 9, 16 and 23 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. in Room 103A of Williamson Hall. The class will provide information in internal and external parts of the computer, fixing common computer problems and basic preventive maintenance. The fee for the class is $45. Rocky Perritt is the instructor.
The basic skin and scuba diving course will give students training in the skills and background knowledge needed for open water skin and scuba diving. Registration will be on Sept. 10. Classes will be on Sept. 17 until Oct. 22 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. in Room 106 of Williamson Hall. Brian Wimberly is the instructor.
Open water experience is optional for completion of the course but is required for scuba diver certification. Information about open water experience available to students will be provided at the appropriate time.
The fee for the class is $90 plus $135 for rental equipment and $50 for books plus a charge for certification.
Travel French is a fun course for those planning a trip to a French-speaking country or who are interested in Louisiana's French heritage. The class will be held on Thursdays from Sept. 11 until Oct. 9 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Students will learn the basics of communications such as asking for directions and ordering in a restaurant. Those taking the class will also gain additional understanding of culture and traditions. Christine Ferrell is the instructor. There is a fee of $50 for the course.
Learn to Tat will teach the basic techniques of creating double stitches and picots which are the foundation elements of tatted lace. All items needed to learn and create pieces of tatted lace will be provided along with information to continue additional research. The course will be on Wednesdays from 5:15 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. beginning Sept. 17 and concluding Oct. 8. Stacy Fontenot is the instructor. There is a $40 fee plus a $12 format fee for the class.
The first session of Pet First Aid will be on Tuesday, Sept. 30 from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The class will teach how to give immediate care to an injured or suddenly ill pet until veterinary care is available. The program is not intended to replace veterinary care, but to instruct a pet owner how to react in an emergency and minimize a pet's trauma due to injury. Carrie Blanchard is the instructor. There is a fee of $25 for the class. Additional sessions will be held on Oct. 28 and Nov. 18.
