FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES - Donald Brent Paddie of Noble and Jennifer Faith Meshell-Lowe of Zwolle have been named as recipients of the Ellis and Melva Juanita Martinez Coutee Scholarship at Northwestern State University.

Paddie and Lowe are both accounting majors.

The Coutee Scholarship is awarded annually to full-time math or accounting majors at NSU who maintain a grade point average of at least 3.0.

Northwestern alumni Ellis and Juanita Coutee of Baton Rouge set up the scholarship in 1997 with a commitment of $100,000 to the NSU Foundation over a five-year period. The Coutees will give $5,000 annually, and Exxon Corporation provides a $15,000 match.

"I am extremely grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Coutee for setting up the scholarship," said Lowe, a graduate of Zwolle High School. "I commute to school, so anything I can receive to pay for expenses is very helpful."

After graduating, Lowe hopes to become a CPA or CMA (Certified Managerial Accountant.)

"I hope someday to do something to help a student just like Mr. and Mrs. Coutee did," said Lowe, who is a senior.

Paddie, a junior, is a graduate of Ebarb High School. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Order where he serves as intramural chairman.

"Receiving this scholarship is very helpful to me and my family. I receive a TOPS scholarship, but there are many other necessities," said Paddie. "It is good that successful people are willing to give back to help students at Northwestern. I am thankful to Mr. and Mrs. Coutee."
