FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES -Students in criminal justice at Northwestern State University will soon be able to benefit from a new scholarship established at the NSU Foundation.

The Bradley Alan Daughtry Memorial Scholarship has been set up to honor Daughtry, a criminal justice major at Northwestern, who lost his life in an automobile accident in September.

"We wanted to set up this scholarship to help a student who doesn't get much financial assistance," said Max Daughtry, Brad's father. "This scholarship should go to someone who really needs it."

The scholarship was started by friends of the Daughtry family. Brad Daughtry was a graduate of Winnfield Senior High School where he was a member of the football team. He also worked as a dispatcher for the Winn Parish Sheriff's Office. Daughtry will receive a posthumous Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from NSU at Fall Commencement Exercises in December.

"We were overwhelmed at the number of people who wanted to make contributions toward this scholarship. It was unbelievable," said Max Daughtry.

The Daughtry Scholarship will be endowed and interest from the endowment used to make the award. The recipient will be a criminal justice major with a grade point average of at least 3.0.

Donations for the scholarship are being accepted and can be made at Sabine State Bank in Winnfield or at the NSU Foundation. Donors should indicate that the gift is for the Daughtry Scholarship.
