NATCHITOCHES ­Mortal Importables, an exhibition of sculpture by new faculty member Matt DeFord opens Monday in the Hanchey Art Gallery. DeFord will show a collection of whimsical works created from steel, wire, light, sound, nylon, and other mateials, even pinto beans.

DeFord completed a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2004 at Kansas State University, Manhattan, and also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture from Brigham Young University. His work has been exhibited in several locations including New Jersey, New Mexico, Kansas and Canada.

A reception for DeFord will take place Thursday at 7 p.m. The show will continue through March 18.

The Hanchey Gallery is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
