NATCHITOCHES-John Dilworth has been named vice president for university affairs at Northwestern State University. His appointment has been approved by the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System.
Dilworth has been chief operation officer for Caddo Public Schools for the past three years. In that position, he was responsible for matters related to teaching, learning, school operations and support n a system of 45,000. Dilworth assisted in the design, development and implementation of multiple programs resulting in significant improvement for academic success for students. He also led a committee in revising the district's discipline policy to assure consistency in the disciplining of students. Dilworth also assisted with the adjusting of the district's attendance zone boundaries for better utilization of facilities.
"Mr. Dilworth was an outstanding candidate for this position. The screening committee was unanimous in its recommendation of him," said NSU President Dr. Randall J. Webb. "I have known and respected him for some time, since he has worked for many years in the Caddo Parish School System. My admiration for him and his professional expertise grew even more when I carefully analyzed his credentials and personal traits in relation to the kind of individual I was seeking for this vice presidential appointment. John Dilworth is an exceptional person, in whom I have the utmost confidence. He will be a welcome addition to the Northwestern Family."
From 1992 until 2000, Dilworth served as a troubleshooter principal and was successful in improving the school climate, test scores and enrollment at Fair Park High School, Huntington High School and Broadmoor Middle Laboratory School.
Dilworth joined the Caddo Parish school system in 1977 as a teacher and coach, teaching health, physical education, special education and driver education at Woodlawn, Booker T. Washington and Southwood high schools. From 1986 until 1992, he was assistant principal at Captain Shreve High School.
He received a bachelor's and master's degree at NSU. Dilworth also completed additional graduate work at Centenary College, Grambling State University, LSU-Shreveport, Louisiana Tech University and NSU.
A member of the Graduate "N" Club Hall of Fame, Dilworth played in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins for three seasons and with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League.
Dilworth was named Educator of the Year at Captain Shreve, Huntington and in the Caddo Parish School District. He was chosen for induction into the Captain Shreve Hall of Fame.
