NATCHITOCHES Sessions of a summer arts and crafts workshop for children will be among the classes offered in July by Northwestern State University's Office of Electronic and Continuing Education.
During the workshop young artists will create artwork, learn about artists and gain an understanding of how and why art is made. Participants will create colorful "masterpieces" as young artists, stretching their skills and imaginations in this hands-on introduction to an array of real artists' materials and techniques.
Classes for ages 5-7 will be held July 4-8 and July 18-22. Classes for ages 8-10 will be held July 11-15 and July 25-29. The classes will be held from 1-4 p.m. in Room 109 of the Creative and Performing Arts Building. Melissa Melder Reese will be the instructor. The fee for the class is $45 plus a $10 supply fee to be paid directly to the instructor.
Other classes being presented include a beginners photography class on Thursday, July 7 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and an introduction to calligraphy on Saturday, July 9 from 9 a.m. until noon and classes on PowerPoint on July 11-13.
The photography class will be held in Room 115 of Russell Hall. Gale Trussell is the instructor. The fee for the class is $35. The class is designed to give those 16 and over the knowledge and skills to take better photographs of their favorite subjects.
The introduction to calligraphy will be taught by Stephanie McBride Boyt. The fee is $35 plus a $10 supply fee. The location is to be announced. In the class, participants can learn the art of lettering through various alphabet styles which can be used on invitations, nametags, place cards and more.
PowerPoint classes will cover the basics on July 11, intermediate features on July 12 and advanced techniques on July 13. The classes will be taught by Donna Dyson in Room 103 of Williamson Hall from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. The fee is $45 per session or $100 for all three sessions.
