FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES-Northwestern State University's College of Education has been awarded a national recognition certificate by the National Policy Board of Educational Administration (NPBEA).

The College of Education was recognized after the Educational Leaders Constituent Council (ELCC) reviewed NSU's programs and determined that the University met or exceeded the NPBEA standards for advanced programs in educational leadership and the host institution had obtained National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) certification.

"It is a tremendous source of pride to be recognized by a national organization," said Dr. John Tollet, dean of College of Education. "There was a lot of hard work done by a lot of people to achieve this and it was certainly worth it."

The ELCC review is the profession's way of identifying and recognizing outstanding administrator preparation programs in colleges and universities.

"We now have graduates in administrative positions in Nevada, Florida and all over the state of Louisiana," said Tollet.

Because of this national recognition NSU joins an elite group of institutions that have demonstrated their ability to prepare educational administrators for the challenges they'll face leading our nation's schools and districts.

"This award reflects the expertise and the education of the entire faculty in preparing the future leaders of the state," said Assistant Professor of Education Dr. Derwood Duke. "It feels like we are filling the needs of the school system."
