NATCHITOCHES -Northwestern State University alumnus Eddie Elsey will present a trombone recital at NSU Friday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. The concert is sponsored by the NSU Office of Student Activities and Organizations.
Elsey, an instructor of low brass at the University of North
Alabama, will hold a discussion session with current music students
about careers in music, music performance, and other related topics
Thursday at 4 p.m. in Room 122 of the Creative and Performing
Arts building at NSU.
Friday night's program will feature Concert Etude by Alexander
Goedicke, Carmen Fantasy by Georges Bizet, Romanza Appasionata
by Carl Maria von Weber, Elegy for Mippy II by Leonard
Bernstein, Suite for Unaccompanied Trombone by Leslie Bassett
and Sonata (Vox Gabrieli) by Stjepan Sulek. NSU graduate
student Elena Bogaczova will be the accompanist.
Elsey earned a Bachelor of Music Education from NSU and a Master of Music in trombone performance from the University of Southern Mississippi. He is pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in trombone performance and pedagogy from USM.
At North Alabama, Elsey teaches applied lessons for trombone, euphonium and tuba students as well as teaching advanced theory, survey of music literature, and class brass methods. He is conductor of The University of North Alabama Brass Ensemble.
Elsey recently won the "Brass Division" and the "Silver
Medal Award" in the 1st annual Corinth Symphony Orchestra
Young Artists Competition. He was also a part of the jazz trombone
sextet, "HubBones," that was the 2002 Eastern Trombone
Workshop winner of the National Jazz Ensemble Competition. He
has also been a featured soloist with the Corinth Symphony Orchestra,
the Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Orchestra and the University
of Southern Mississippi Wind Ensemble.
