NATCHITOCHES - An emergency medical technician basic course will be offered in Many by Northwestern State University's Office of Continuing Education beginning Monday, April 16.
The course will be taught two nights a week through August 31. Class time is from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. at the old Vo-Tech School at 910 W. Mississippi Ave. The nights the class will meet could vary depending on the instructor's work schedule. There is a $310 fee for the course plus textbooks.
Upon completion on the course, students will be eligible to take the National Registry Test to become certified as an EMT Basic. The class will include 144 hours of classroom training, 12 hours of clinicals in a hospital emergency room and 12 hours of field training on an ambulance.
Those taking the course must be at least 17 (18 before taking the National Registry Exam, have a copy of their high school diploma or GED and must also have a copy of their current immunization records. Students must also have a statement from a physician regarding their current physical condition. Other requirements include a passing grade on the TABE Test and a copy of the American Heart Association Health Care Provider CPR certificate or equivalent.
The TABE Test will be offered Friday, April 6 at 6 p.m. at 910 W. Mississippi Ave. The fee for the test is $5. The American Heart Association Health Care Provider CPR class will be held Friday, April 13 at 6 p.m. at 910 W. Mississippi Ave. The fee for the class is $2.
