NATCHITOCHES - Registration for the Fall 2001 semester at Northwestern State University will begin Tuesday, Aug. 14, according to Registrar Lillie Frazier Bell.
Students who are enrolled at NSU, along with re-entry and transfer students with more than 30 semester hours can register by telephone or the Internet Aug. 14-21. Students can register by phone by calling (318) 357-7016, or (800) 618-1531. Internet registration is available at www2.nsula.edu.
Departmental registration and fee payment will be held on the Leesville/Fort Polk campus Aug. 14, in Shreveport at the College of Nursing Aug. 15 and in Alexandria at England Airpark Aug. 16. Those students on the Natchitoches campus can register in their academic departments Aug. 20-21. Fee payment on the Natchitoches campus will be held Aug. 24.
Fall classes begin Aug. 22. The final day to register, add courses or make section changes is Aug. 27.
This fall, Northwestern will implement admissions standards for incoming freshmen to enter a four-year degree program. Requirements include at least a composite score of 18 on the ACT exam or 850 on the SAT, an overall high school grade point average of at least 2.5, or a performance or talent-related scholarship from Northwestern.
Those students who do not qualify to enter a four-year program can be admitted to NSU in a two-year program. Those students must complete 30 hours in non-developmental courses with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 and must complete any developmental courses with a 2.0 grade point average.
"This is an important step for Northwestern as we continue improving our academic programs," said NSU President Dr. Randall J. Webb. "The implementation of admissions standards lets students know that they should be prepared for the demands of college when they begin their academic careers."
