NATCHITOCHES-Misti Chelette has been named director of student financial aid at Northwestern State University. Her appointment has been approved by the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.

Chelette has worked in NSU's Financial Aid Office for more than two years. She worked as a loan officer and assistant director for compliance and operations.

Approximately 8,000 Northwestern students received some form of financial aid during the 2001-2002 academic year. Aid to students totaled more than $49 million.

As director, Chelette will supervise financial aid staff and administer all federal, state and institutional policies and procedures related to student financial aid. She will administer Title IV programs which include Pell Grants, SEOG, LEAP, CWSP, Perkins, Stafford and PLUS loans along with any other loans and programs that may be developed.

Chelette will also supervise the Office of University Scholarships and coordinate provision of services to constants. In addition, she will assist in counseling students and parents regarding financial aid eligibility and debt management. Her duties also include presenting financial aid workshops for prospective students and parents as well as for other departments at the university. During the academic year, Chelette will make visits to area schools to promote the availability of financial aid.

Chelette, a graduate of Pineville High School, received a Bachelor of General Studies and a Master's of Education in Adult Education from Northwestern.
