NATCHITOCHES - Flutists Tomas Janosik and Denette Derby McDermott will present a recital at Northwestern State University Friday, Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. The accompanist will be Russian pianist Nikita Fitenko, a new member of Northwestern's faculty.
The program will include works by Bach, Kuhlau, Jiri Cart, Quantz, Jindrich Feld and Poulenc.
Janosik is a member of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra. He has recorded the Dutilleux "Sonatine for Flute and Piano" with Helena Gaforova on CD. Janosik attended the State Conservatory in Bratislava where he was chosen as the best graduate in 1990.
In addition, he participated in an exchange through the French Ministry of Culture studying in Paris at the Conservatiore du Musique. Janosik also attended the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Bratislava and is completing a doctorate degree in flute performance.
Janosik and McDermott performed last week at the National Flute Association convention in Dallas. The international convention hosted more than 6,000 flutists during the four-day event.
