FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES -The final two sessions of Northwestern State University's Freshman Connection 1998 will be held June 25-26 and July 9-10.
Freshman Connection is a two-day summer orientation program for incoming first-year students at NSU. During freshman connection, students register for fall classes and take placement tests in math, English and reading. By registering for fall classes now, students can schedule classes at their convenience before sections fill. Upon completing the registration process, students will receive their fall schedule. When students return for the fall semester, the registration process will be complete except for fee payment.
"Incoming freshman at Northwestern will do themselves a great favor by taking part in Freshman Connection," said Gail Jones, director of New Student Programs at NSU. "By coming to campus, they will learn their way around, make friends and take care of details that will make their first year of college easier."
The incoming freshman will be assisted by current NSU students who will be available to answer questions and help incoming students through the start of their college career. Students will also meet with university administrators, faculty, staff and students and take part in activities.
A parent orientation program, Parent Connection, will also be held simultaneously to answer questions that parents may have about university life. Parents will also meet with university administrators, staff and students to learn about Northwestern. Sessions for the parents will include discussions on parenting a college freshman, financial aid, student services, majors and career decisions and more.
The fee for Freshman Connection is $75 which includes four meals, lodging and any general medical care that may be needed. For more information on Freshman Connection, call (318) 357-5559.
