FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES - Galindo Rodriguez, an assistant professor of music at Northwestern State University, has been invited to attend and perform during the 2000 International Trumpet Guild Conference to be held at the State University of New York May 24-28.
Rodriguez, who also conducts the NSU Jazz Orchestra, is conference scholarship procurement chair for the Guild. Over the last 12 years, he has served as chair of the International Solo Competition, Scholarship Competition and 1995 International Brass Conference Festival of Trumpets. Rodriguez's interest in the study of performance of early music has taken him to Europe twice, once as member of a baroque trumpet ensemble performing in London and Gothenborg, Sweden.
"This work is my contribution toward the study and performance of period music, presented hopefully as it would have been heard during the 1700s," said Rodriguez. "It is my believe that in order for one to teach and perform western European music properly, a continued study of performance practices is essential. My interest lies primarily in the style of the Baroque. This work is a lifelong process, and a marvelous one at that."
For the 2000 International Trumpet Guild Conference, Rodriguez has organized two baroque trumpet ensembles, one to perform during the traditional Festival of Trumpets, the other to prelude the only concert of the conference featuring period music performed on period instruments. Scheduled to perform on the concert are baroque trumpet specialists Allen Dean and John Thiessen.
Members of Rodriguez's baroque trumpet ensemble are: Dr. Leonard Candelaria, of the University of North Texas, Bryan Goff of Florida State University, Dr. John Korak of Southern Illinois University, Larry Johansen of California Baptist College, Dr. Craig Hurst of the University of Wisconsin at Waukesha, Dr. Henry Meredith of the University of Toronto, Dr. Robert Kase of the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point, Dr. Rick Bogart of the University of Texas at Arlington, Andrew Naumann of Edwards Musical Instruments/Nauman Trumpets and Dr. Jack Laumer of Southwest Texas State University.
