FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES-Dr. Thomas Hall, head of the Department
of Engineering Technology at Northwestern State University, presented
a paper on conducting electronics engineering technology labs
over the Internet at a four day colloquium hosted by the Technical
University of Berlin. Hall represented the American Society for
Engineering Education (ASEE) at the conference.
This was the first time representatives from the ASEE met with
representatives from the European Society for Engineering Education
(SEFI).
"The main purpose for having the colloquium was to get these two societies together and come up with ideas on how to work together better," said Hall.
The three topics covered at the colloquium were accreditation and licensing among countries, distance education and entrepreneurship.
According to Hall, discussions on accreditation and licensing
benefit the NSU faculty going through their own accreditation
procedures.
"We are expected to maintain currency in our field. Attending
these conferences are a way of doing just that," said Hall.
"We are able to get good ideas from being around other people
and we get to bring those ideas back to the department and the
classroom."
