NATCHITOCHES-Jennifer Hayghe of Louisiana State University will open the Louisiana Piano Series International at Northwestern State University Friday, Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall.
The concert is the first of five featuring nationally and internationally reknowned pianists. The series is being organized by Nikita Fitenko, assistant professor of piano at NSU, who is an internationally recognized concert performer.
Tickets to the entire concert series are $20 each which includes a lecture before the concert and a post concert reception. Tickets to individual concerts are $10 each. Students are admitted free.
Hayghe has performed in solo recitals and orchestral appearances throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. She is currently on the piano faculty and serves as piano area coordinator at LSU.
Hayghe received her bachelors, masters and doctorate degree
in piano performance from The Juilliard School, where she was
the last student of the
legendary artist-teacher Adele Marcus. In the last recommendation
written before her death, Marcus stated: "Jennifer Hayghe
will most definitely reach the heights as a famous artist. She
has already shown the qualities of exceptional pianism and tremendous
warmth of expression in the way she handles all works of music."
While at Julliard, Ms. Hayghe won every award possible for a Juilliard pianist to receive, including theWilliam Petschek Debut Award, resulting in her New York City recital debut at Alice Tully Hall.
An accomplished chamber musician, Hayghe continues to collaborate
with members of the New York Philharmonic and has performed in
major chamber music
series, including the Museum of Modern Art's "Summergarden"
series and Bargemusic in New York. She has also performed as a
chamber musician in the Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center
and has taught chamber music throughout the United States and
Central America.
Hayghe's orchestral appearances include performances on numerous series with the National Symphony Orchestra, recent concerts with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra and performances with various orchestras in the United States and abroad. In addition, she has been frequently featured in radio broadcasts, including National Public Radio's Performance Today series, and on live broadcasts on the major classical radio stations of Washington, D.C., Chicago and New York City.
Hayghe was also invited to be the convention artist for the
1999 Louisiana Music Teachers Association State Convention and
the 2000 Virginia Music Teachers
Association State Convention.
Other pianists performing in the series include Radoslav Kvapil of the Czech Republic on Nov. 8, En Joo Chung, the winner of the World Piano Competition in Cincinnati on Nov. 15, Igor Lebedev of Russia on January 31 and Joseph Banowetz of the University of North Texas on March 28.
