The program will include Fanfare for Barcs by Kerry Turner, Elegy for Mippy by Leonard Bernstein, Concerto by Franz Strauss, My Immortal arranged by Chris McHenry, Amazing Grace arranged by Don A. Abernathy, Blues & Variations for Monk by David Amram and Somewhere & America from Westside Story.

Whorton will be accompanied by Lane Dunn (piano), Derek Phillips, Ronnie Ivy, and Chris McHenry (Melodic Percussion), Leah Epperhart, Kyle Harvison, Chad Causey (Horn Quartet), Joel Adair, Steve Anderson, Melanie Richey, Randy Cantu (NSU Senior Brass Quintet).

Whorton is head drum major for the "Spirit of Northwestern" Marching Band, one of three members of her family to serve as drum major. She will begin student teaching in the fall and plans to graduate in December with a bachelor's in music education.

McHenry, a graduate of NSU with a bachelor's in music education, arranged My Immortal, specifically for the recital. While at Northwestern, McHenry studied under Ken Green as a percussionist. He is currently a band director and percussion instructor at Canton I.S.D. in Canton, Texas.

The Whorton family has longstanding ties to Northwestern. Her parents, Sherry and Richard Whorton met at Northwestern while working on their music education degrees and went on to successful careers as band directors in Louisiana in Texas.

One brother, Chris Whorton, was head drum major of the "Spirit of Northwestern" Marching Band and earned a bachelor's in music education. He is director of fine arts and bands at Liberty Eylau in Texarkana, Texas. Another brother, Jerry, is drum major with the marching band as he works toward his bachelor's in music education.

Her sister, Julie, also received a bachelor's degree in music education and was a member of the band.

Heather Whorton would like to thank all those involved in her recital, including her grandmother, Helen Sherrill of Natchitoches.
