NATCHITOCHES- In conjunction with the first International Creole Studies Conference, Friday, Oct. 24 will be declared "Creole Heritage Day" in the City of New Orleans.
The proclamation is scheduled to be approved by the New Orleans City Council on Thursday, Oct. 16. Councilman Marlin Gusman will introduce the proclamation. He will present it to Barbara Normand in honor of her late husband Dr. Krueger Normand, an outstanding Creole scholar who lived in New Orleans.
A humanities professor at Southern University in New Orleans, Normand's love of languages and teaching became the foundations of his career. One of his honored academic accomplishments was the development of French as a language in New Orleans.
The Creole studies conference is scheduled for October 23-25 at the Radisson Hotel in New Orleans. The conference is sponsored by the Creole Studies Consortium, which includes Northwestern State University and Tulane University. The goal of this first time exciting event is to bring together scholars and members of the general public from throughout the U.S. and beyond to share their research findings and family histories about Creole people.

For those who have not registered for the conference, pre-registration for the conference will begin Thursday October 23 at the entrance of the Radisson's Tulane Ball Room. The conference will conclude Saturday, October 25 with a Creole Soiree' in the Audubon Suite, rooms A-C, sponsored by the New Orleans Creole Heritage Foundation.
