NATCHITOCHES - The Northwestern State University Department of Journalism will host a silent auction and banquet Thursday, Oct. 21 to benefit the Rondray Hill Scholarship Fund. The event will be in the Friedman Student Union Ballroom. The Ballroom doors open at 6 p.m. with the banquet at 7 p.m.

Tickets are available at $20 each. Table sponsorships are $160.

Proceeds will go toward a scholarship for Northwestern journalism students named in memory of Hill, who was a journalism student at NSU. Hill was editor of the student newspaper, the Current Sauce, in 2001-2002 and a member of the National Association of Black Journalists. A Shreveport resident, Hill died suddenly of a heart attack in 2002.

The guest speaker for the banquet will be the National Association of Black Journalists Region VII Director and Tulsa World copy editor and paginator, Russell A. LaCour.

The banquet will be the final event of J.U.M.P week presented by student organizations: NABJ, Public Relations Students Society of America and Society of Professional Journalists.J.U.M.P (Journalists Unifying to Make Progress) week is dedicatedto bringing students speakers from different journalistic fieldsto discuss with students their future careers and the qualities of responsibility, leadership and teamwork in journalism. Thesequalities can help students "jump" from a collegiate to a professional level.

Bidding for the silent auction will begin after the doors open at 6 p.m. Auction participants can then bid sports memorabilia provided by Signature Auction. Items on the auction list include signed memorabilia from golf superstar Tiger Woods, baseball legend "Mr. October" Reggie Jackson and Ty Law of the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.
