FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES- Hospitality management and tourism students learned first-hand the ins and outs of the business on an annual trip to England, France and Italy this summer.

The European tour is a partial requirement of the international tourism class taught by Dr. Lynn Woods, assistant professor of family and consumer sciences.

According to Woods, the students prepare for the trip by lectures and discussion on international tourism management and development.

The group toured the sights of London, including Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, the Royal Greenwich Observatory and a cruise down the Thames River along with London Walks' Jack the Ripper. Other London activities included a banquet at Hatfield Palace, watching the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace and a production of "Buddy." They also met with Robin Eden, English representative for Global Travel and received a lecture on packaging and tour wholesaling.

In France the groups visited the Eiffel Tower, took a trip down the Seine, and saw the "Mona Lisa" and "Venus de Milo" at the Louvre. The group also received and lecture and dined with the Louisiana tourism representative who sells the state to French tour operators. They then saw the musical review at the Moulin Rouge. The group then traveled by train to Nice/Monte Carlo.

The group had the chance to visit the Leaning Tower of Pisa, view Michelanlego's "David" in Florence, and dance in the vineyards of Tuscany during their tour of Italy. They also sang Happy Birthday to the Pope on a live radio broadcast after touring the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel.

Woods' annual European trip is geared for hospitality management and tourism students, but open to the public.
