NATCHITOCHES-Northwestern State University will hold its annual Homecoming celebration Oct. 17-19.
On Thursday, Oct. 17, the NSU Retirees Reception will be held from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Alumni Center. The reception is for all Northwestern retirees.
On Friday, Oct. 18, events begin with the Alumni Association Board Meeting will begin at 10 a.m. in the Friedman Student Union in Room 221. The NSU Foundation Board Meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Cane River Room of the Friedman Student Union.
The Homecoming Golf Tournament will be held at the Recreation Complex. NSU alumni and friends of the university are encouraged to participate in the annual golf scramble on the 18-hole golf course for $50 per player (includes golf cart and lunch by Coach Gene Knecht). Tee time is at 1 p.m. and lunch will be served at 12 p.m. Reservations can be made by calling Hall Adams at the NSU Recreation Complex at (318) 357-3207.
The Homecoming Parade will begin at approximately 5 p.m. The Homecoming Parade begins at Prather Coliseum and ends at the Downtown Riverbank. A pep rally on the Riverbank will follow the parade.
The World War II Era Students Reunion Reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the President's Room of the Friedman Student Union. The reception will be honoring students who attended Northwestern in the late 1930's and 1940's. A reception honoring the Alumni Board, the Foundation Board, the Distinguished Faculty Recipients, the Long Purple Line Recipients and the President's Distinguished Service Award Recipient will be held from 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. The reception is by invitation only.
The Homecoming Banquet will begin at 7 p.m. in the Friedman Student Union Ballroom. The annual banquet will be honoring the Long Purple Line recipients, the President's Distinguished Service Award Recipient, the Distinguished Faculty Award Recipients and the N-Club Inductees. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased at the Alumni Center or by calling (318) 357-4414 or (888) 799-6486. A social prior to the banquet will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the lobby of the Friedman Student Union.
On Saturday, Oct. 19, The 5K "Run for Richard" starts the day's events at 8:30 a.m. at the Ledet Track Complex. The cost is $15 per person, which includes a T-shirt and a game ticket. Advanced reservations are required. Proceeds will benefit the Richard Ware Scholarship Fund. For more information call (318) 357-5251.
The College of Business Alumni Breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Ballroom of the Friedman Student Union. All graduates of the College of Business are invited to attend a breakfast that will honor inductees of the College's Hall of Distinction. For more information call (318) 357-5161.
The College of Education Reunion will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Teachers Education Building. All graduates of the College of Education are invited to attend a breakfast that will honor the inductees of the College's Hall of Distinguished Educators. The N-Club Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in Prather Coliseum.
Alumni Tailgating will begin at 11:30 a.m. and last until 2:30 p.m. adjacent to Turpin Stadium and the Fieldhouse. All alumni and friends are encouraged to tailgate before the game..
The Homecoming Game against Southwestern Oklahoma begins at 3 p.m. at Turpin Stadium.
The Band Alumni Party will be held after the game at the Alumni Center as well as the Demon Dazzler Reunion. Both events are for members only.
Other post game events include a reception for the 2002 Homecoming Court in the Steve and Lori Stroud Hospitality Room at the Athletic Fieldhouse. The reception is by invitation. A post-game party for members of the Graduate N-Club will be held at the Shriners Club.
"Boogie on the Bricks" will begin approximately at 6 p.m. on Front Street.
For those wanting to get Northwestern merchandise, the NSU Bookstore will be open Friday until 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
