FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES - Dr. Steve Horton, head of the Department of Journalism at Northwestern State University, was selected by the Accrediting Council on Journalism and Mass Communications to be a member of the on-site review team visiting the Johnson School of Communications at Howard State University in Washington, D.C., Feb. 8-12.
Horton will be part of a five-member team consisting of journalism educators and professionals from throughout the United States who will visit the campus to assess curriculum, faculty, administration, students, facilities and resources as part of its application for re-accreditation by ACEJMC. Prior to being selected, Horton participated in an in depth training on evaluation of the standards and principles of accreditation along with nearly 175 other journalism educators and professionals.
The Council conducts voluntary reviews of programs for professional education in journalism and mass communications in institutions in higher learning, awarding accredited status to those that meet its standards. The Council has accredited 107 programs, both in the United States and internationally, approximately 20 percent of all journalism/mass communications programs.
Northwestern State's Department of Journalism recently was
reaccredited under Horton's leadership.
