NATCHITOCHES - Beginning with the fall 2005 semester the NSU ID card known as the Speed Demon Card will feature an additional function as a debit card. NSU has partnered with Peoples State Bank to provide this service. All NSU students, faculty, and staff members will be required to pick up their new NSU ID card in the fall as part of this new feature.

Students who elect to activate the free full-service Purple Power Checking Account with Peoples State Bank will have the option to have any financial aid or refund checks direct deposited to their checking account, which is accessed by their NSU ID. These funds can be used at any off-campus location that accepts Pulse or Plus branded cards. All transactions will require a pin number.

"Peoples State Bank is extremely excited about our partnership with the NSU One Card Office," stated John J. Blake III, President and CEO. "We feel that this added feature to the ID Card will not only be more convenient for the students and faculty, but will also be safer."

Anyone that is issued a NSU ID is eligible to open a Purple Power Checking Account. This is an exclusive account for Northwestern. Returning students will have an opportunity to open a Purple Power Checking Account during fee payment week and at other designated times. Faculty and staff will be able to open accounts at their Benefit Fair on Thursday, August 18. Accounts can also be opened at any branch of Peoples State Bank during regular business hours or online at www.peoplesstate.com.

The Speed Demon Card will continue to serve students as the official NSU ID card, provide access to residence halls, serve as the meal plan card for Aramark, be used in vending machines, laundry facilities, and access to student activities and other on campus events.
