NATCHITOCHES Northwestern State University will hold a session of its Freshman Connection program in Jonesville Wednesday, July 27 beginning at 9 a.m. at NSU's Jonesville campus at 104 Lilly Street. The registration fee for the program is $35. This session of Freshman Connection is for students who have been admitted to the university will enroll at Northwestern's Jonesville campus this fall.
Northwestern's Freshman Connection program is designed to assist students with the transition to university life. Students will be able to meet with an academic advisor, who can help them develop a class schedule. They can also register for classes, learn about resources at the university and meet future classmates.
This is the second year that the Freshman Connection program has been expanded to assist students at Northwestern's satellite campuses.
"This is an excellent way for our students in Jonesville to learn what Northwestern has to offer and meet with people who can assist them as they start college," said NSU Director of Student Success Reatha Cox. "Those who attend can have their questions answered and get one-on-one attention from their advisors and other university personnel."
Representatives from the offices of Student Success and New Student Programs, University Recruiting, Admissions, Financial Aid, Academic Advising, Electronic and Continuing Education and the Testing Center will attend.
"Freshman Connection will help students learn the strategies for success at the university," said Cox. "It is an important first step for any new student."
Check in will be at 9 a.m. The program will begin with an overview at 9:30 a.m. At 10 a.m., students will be able to take the COMPASS Placement Exam. This exam is for students who are currently placed in developmental exams. The exam is designed to place students into appropriate entry-level English and math courses or into developmental courses.
Group sessions with orientation leaders will give students an "inside view" of NSU beginning at 10:45 a.m. After lunch, participants will get information on financial aid, academic success and available technology at Northwestern. They can then register for fall classes.
