FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern Summer Theatre will present a children’s play, “Go Jump in the Lake,” July 26-28 and Aug. 2-4 at 1 p.m. in Theatre West. Tickets are $4. This play is for children ages 4-13.
“Go Jump in the Lake” is a story of a young boy named Ferdinand, a skunk named Bartholomew and a dragon named Jennifer who learn to appreciate their own uniqueness and defend themselves with non-violence. Elizabeth Maxwell will be the director.
“I decided to stay at Northwestern to do summer theatre and thought that we haven’t done a lot of children’s theatre,” said Maxwell. “I knew with the actors and technicians here we could put together an enjoyable show.”
Maxwell said artistic director/theatre coordinator Scott Burrell was very supportive of the idea of doing a play for children. She read “Go Jump in the Lake” and decided it would appeal to a young audience.
“The three characters, Ferdinand, Bartholomew and Jennifer, go on an adventure and learn how to defend themselves using non-violent ways,” said Maxwell. “The kids will enjoy seeing the actors play a variety of parts. Each cast member has five or six roles and has costumes they can relate to. There is also a chase scene they should enjoy.”
