FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES -Northwestern State University Assistant Professor of Violin Andrej Kurti will present a recital Friday, Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.
Kurti will perform Partita No. 2 in D-minor for Solo Violin
by Bach, Sonata No. 2, op.27 for Solo Violin by Eugene
Ysaye, Mozart's Violin-Viola Duo in G-major, with viola
part to be performed on euphonium by NSU faculty member Masahito
Kuroda and
Sonata No. 4, op.27 for Solo Violin by Ysaye.
"The works by Bach and Mozart are classics, and a great deal has been said about their genius in music and history of music," said Kurti. "However, Ysaye sonatas are less known even though they are masterpieces written for the solo instrument. They demand high technical abilities from the performer. The music is beautiful, flowing, and there is a feeling like there is more than one person playing a lot of times during the compositions."
Kurti said only about two dozen musicians have performed the sonatas by Ysaye. A recording of Ysaye sonatas by Kurti made in Magale Recital Hall will be released in the next few months by Blue Griffin Records. Kurti has been recording for Blue Griffin for five years.
A native of Belgrade, Yugoslavia, Kurti won several first prizes in national violin competitions. He was also a guest on national radio and television as a featured violinist.
Kurti completed a Bachelor of Music degree and then a Master of Music degree at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. During that time, Kurti toured several European countries as a soloist and a chamber musician.
He completed an additional Master of Music degree and then a doctorate at the University of Georgia. During that time, he became a National Finalist at the MTNA competition, as well as the winner of university competitions.
He has also collaborated with over 30 musical ensembles in non-classical music styles in Athens, Ga., and performed with the Spirit of Northwestern Marching Band on the Charlie Daniels Band song The Devil Went Down to Georgia.
