NATCHITOCHES - Applications are being accepted for the John, Thelma and Janet Kyser Endowed Scholarship at Northwestern State University.

The three-year, $500 per semester scholarship will be awarded to a student who will be a sophomore this fall. The recipient must be majoring in either anthropology, criminal justice, history, political science, sociology, social work or general social science, have a grade point average of at least 3.0 and be a resident of Louisiana.

A written application is due by Wednesday, April 15. The application should state that the student meets the criteria for the scholarship and contain a brief essay explaining why the individual should receive the scholarship. Applications should be mailed to Dr. Alex Aichinger, Department of Social Sciences, Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, LA 71497. For more information, contact Aichinger at (318) 357-6195.

The scholarship was established by the late Mrs. Thelma Kyser last year. Mrs. Kyser was the wife of John S. Kyser, who was president of Northwestern from 1954 until 1966. She was a member of the NSU Hall of Distinction, the Long Purple Line, and received an honorary doctorate of humanities from Northwestern.
