FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES - Christie Anderson, academic advising coordinator at Northwestern State University, was recently elected president for the Louisiana Academic Advising Association (LACADA) at the annual conference held at NSU.

The purpose of the Louisiana Academic Advising Association (LACADA) is to gain recognition for academic advising and to support the development and professional growth of academic advisors in higher education in Louisiana. LACADA serves a constituency that includes academic advisors, counselors, faculty members, administrators, students and others in academic and student affairs concerned with the intellectual, personal and vocational needs of students. LACADA is the representative and advocate of academic advisors in both public and private institutions and is a forum for discussion, debate and the exchange of ideas.

"My goal is for LACADA to truly become an invaluable resource for Louisiana advisors," said Anderson. "I plan to work to see this organization become more in line with NACADA, our national organization, by championing the educational role of academic advisors and enhancing student learning and development in a diverse world."

Anderson became a member of LACADA in 2000 in order to present at one of the state conferences. She then went on to become vice-president for programs.

"As president, I want my focus to be more on growing LACADA," said Anderson. "I think this is a terrific organization and I'd like to work more towards seeing it develop into the premier advising resource in the state.

"I feel a true sense of responsibility to develop and maintain an association that continually strives to anticipate and subsequently meet the academic advising needs of students, advisors and institutions."
