FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES -The Northwestern Theatre will present the comedy Arsenic and Old Lace Nov. 8-11 and 15-17 at 7:30 p.m. in Theatre West. Tickets are $10. NSU and Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts students are admitted free. Pia Wyatt is the director.
Arsenic and Old Lace is the story of two kind, thoughtful,
sweet old ladies who have developed the bad habit of murdering
lonely old men, which they consider a charity. The women then
leave it to a nephew, who thinks he is President Roosevelt, to
bury the victims in the cellar. Another nephew, Jonathan, returns
home after fleeing the authorities due to his practice of killing
people and using their faces to change his own.
Another nephew, Mortimer finds a body in the window seat by mistake
while trying to stay sane with the woman he loves, Elaine Harper.
The play by Joseph Kesselring was written in 1939 and was adapted
for a 1944 film starring Cary Grant.
"The play is a bit of a dark comedy because you have these two sweet elderly women who kill people and think they are doing them a favor by helping send them to higher ground," said Wyatt. "The play has a large cast and gives a lot of our seniors and freshmen a chance to work together."
The cast includes Kyle Accord of Roswell, Ga., as Abby Brewster, Regan McLellan of Gloster as The Rev. Dr. Harper, Eric Duhon of Lake Charles as Teddy Brewster, Tracena Collongues of Slidell as Officer Brophy, Joseph Jordan of Waskom, Texas, as Officer Klein, Megan Berry of Shreveport and Annie Gaarder of Arlington, Texas, as Elaine Harper.
Also in the cast are Mark Gomez of Baton Rouge as Mortimer Brewster, Klayton Valega of Rayne as Mr. Gibbs, Jeff Springmann of Kenner as Jonathan Brewster, Ryan Hazelbaker of Slidell as Dr. Einstein, James Mitchell of Rio Vista, Texas, as Officer O'Hara, Jaqueline Cooper of Natchitoches as Lieutenant Rooney and Elizabeth Bigger of Goodbe as Ms. Witherspoon.
