NATCHITOCHES The Northwestern State University chapter of Lambda Alpha, the National Honors Society for Anthropology recently held its second annual initiation ceremony welcoming seven new members to Gamma Chapter of Louisiana. The chapter operates in conjunction with the NSU Anthropology Society. Dr. Will Fagan is the faculty sponsor.
Twenty-eight NSU students have been inducted since the chapter was chartered in 2003 with 18 members.
The inductees were: Amanda Burke and Kimberly Eppler of Natchitoches, Ronald Cupit of Denham Springs, Clay Firmin of Cottonport, Jessica Hays of Washington, D.C., Elizabeth Jarred of Alexandria, Bradley Laffitte of Mansfield, and Tamara Miller of Bossier City.
The chapter also recognized Society president and charter member Jennifer Brock of Destrehan, who recently received the Lambda Alpha National Dean's List Scholarship.
The Anthropology Society and Lambda Alpha members meet on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the Archaeology Lab, Room 212 in Kyser Hall. Among the highlights of this semester is a spring lecture series that will feature Heritage Resource Program Coordinator Dr. ElizaBeth Guin, who will present a talk entitled "Harappa: Camels, Veils, and Pottery," Regional Archaeologist Jeff Girard, whose topic will be "Caddo-Cahokia Connections" and Regional Folklorist Dr. Dayna Lee, who will present a talk, "Iron Crosses in the Red River Valley."
Meetings are open to anyone with an interest in anthropology.
