NATCHITOCHES -Louisiana English teachers who may have been displaced or are unemployed due to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita are eligible to apply for $100 scholarships to defray costs of attending upcoming fall conference of the Louisiana Council of Teachers of English.
According to Dr. Paralee Norman, professor of English at Northwestern State University's Leesville Fort Polk campus, the LCTE received donations from the National Council of Teachers of English and its New York affiliate to help fellow teachers. The scholarships can be used to pay registration and transportation expenses for the Fall 2006 conference in Alexandria on Oct. 27-28. The scholarship will pay for the conference fee, one night lodging and provide a $25 stipend. Norman heads a LCTE post-hurricane professional development committee.
Scholarships will be awarded to the first two applicants who request assistance due to Hurricanes Katrina or Rita. Determination will be made based upon the date of postmarks.
