FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES- Eighth grade students can obtain extra assistance studying for the LEAP 21 test with a computer program entitled "Practice Run" developed by the Space Science Group in the College of Science and Technology at Northwestern State University.
The CD has more than 1,000 math and science questions to help prepare students for testing. According to Tom Quantrille, marketing director of the Space Science Group, the program not only alerts students when they answer a question incorrectly, it also explains what mistakes were made.
The program also includes an overview of the math and science sections of the LEAP test, flash animation describing the layout of the "Practice Run" CD, performance and content standards, frequently asked questions, testing dates and test taking tips.
"The questions are harder than what students are used to seeing," said Roxanne Lane, science instructor and editor of the math portion of the program. "The CD will give them practice at higher level thinking because we have included a lot of multi-step math and science questions, not just recall questions."
Quantrille says that the CDs cost $10 and are available through the Space Science office by calling (800) 259-9555 or faxing (318) 357-4307 or e-mailing ssg@nsula.edu. More information is available on the Space Science Group Web site: www.spacesciencegroup.nsula.edu. The CDs may be also available in retail stores in the Natchitoches area.
