NATCHITOCHES ­Pianist Igor Lebedev will perform at Northwestern State University Saturday, Jan. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. The performance is part of the Louisiana Piano Series International.

Lebedev is a professor of piano at St. Petersburg State Conservatory in St. Petersburg, Russia, the oldest and most famous music school in Russia. He also served as dean of the piano department. Lebedev completed his piano studies with the famous Russian teacher D. Serebriakov at the Leningrad State Conservatory. He has performed extensively in Europe, Asia, and North America as a soloist, chamber musician and with orchestras.

Among his students are winners of national and international piano competitions.
He has been invited to give master classes in Finland, Turkey, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, Spain, the U.S. and South Korea.

Lebedev is comfortable with all the stylistic trends in piano music. Works by Beethoven, Liszt, Schumann and Chopin are among his favorites.

He will perform "Sonata in B minor" by Liszt and selected works of the late period by Liszt.

NSU Assistant Professor of Piano Nikita Fitenko was a student of Lebedev from 1990 until 1994.
