FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES - Pianist Hugues Leclere will present a recital at Northwestern State University Saturday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. The performance is part of the Louisiana Piano Series International. Tickets are $10. Students from Northwestern, the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts and all students from the state of Louisiana are admitted free.

The program will include works by Ravel, Debussy and Moussorgsky.

Leclere combines his active performing career with teaching at the Paris Conservatory where he has been on the faculty since 1995. Mr. Leclere is also the artistic director of the Nancyphonies Festival and the European Music Master classes in Nancy, France.

A graduate of the Paris National Conservatory, Leclere graduated with high honors in piano, music theory, and chamber music. He has played numerous recitals in France and has also performed throughout Europe, China, Japan and the United States.

Leclere has been invited to play with many orchestras including the Soloists of Saint Petersburg, Camerata of Berliner Philharmoniker, Orchestre National de Lorraine, Orchestre d'Auvergne, Orchestre Symphonique & Lyrique of Nancy, Minsk Orchestra, Timisoara Orchestra and l'Ensemble Itineraire.

An outstanding interpreter of Debussy, Ravel and their contemporaries, Leclere also demonstrates his artistic maturity in the works by German and Austrian composers. His passion for Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven brought him to research the original sonority of classical instruments. Leclere has his own Fortepiano (the early version of the piano), the crystalline finesse of which is perfect for the late 18th century masterpieces.

Leclere is an active participant in the contemporary artistic life, collaborating with many composers promoting their new works. He also works with the CCN Ballet National de Lorraine in the productions of music by Tchaikovsky and Bartok, proposing various original shows that intermingle different artistic expressions.
