NATCHITOCHES-Several members of the faculty at Northwestern State University College of Education, the NSU Middle Lab School and the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts were representatives to the recent Louisiana Middle School Association (LMSA) Annual Conference in the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center in Baton Rouge.

Since 1973, the National Middle School Association (NMSA) has strived to meet the needs of young adolescents both educationally and developmentally. LMSA is an affiliate member of NMSA. It is the only organization devoted exclusively to middle education.

NSU College of Education faculty included: Jacqueline L. Mason who presented "Culturally Responsive Teaching in Language Arts"; Dr. Ron McBride and Dr. Bob Gillan who contributed a paper called "Promoting Louisiana Studies in Historic Preservation: A Web-Based Application" and "Staff Development the eLearning Way" was submitted by Gillan and dean of education Dr. John Tollet.

Dr. Karen McFerrin of the College of Education and Mary Nell Lott, Director of the NSU Space Science Group offered "Science Out of This World--Classroom Exploration."

Martha Talbert of the Louisiana School for Math, Sciences and the Arts and NSU Middle Laboratory School teachers Dee Dee Perot and Marilyn Mitchell offered a presentation entitled "Questing Together(Quest: Mesh)." Also presenting from the NSU Middle Lab School was Shawn Jessup with "Integrating Technology Into Language Arts and Math Classes."

Other local contributions to LMSA this year were Connie Melder of NSU who acted as newsletter editor and Gillan who also served as the LMSA journal editor.
