NATCHITOCHES- Ten Northwestern State University students will compete in the 43rd Annual Miss Northwestern ­ Lady of the Bracelet Pageant Friday, Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the A.A. Fredericks Auditorium. The pageant is sponsored by the NSU Student Activities Board and is a Miss America preliminary pageant. Admission is free for NSU students and $5 for the public.

Contestants are Halie Lucky, Laura Terrell and Makesha Gallien of Natchitoches, Blair Rohner of Greensburg, Shameka Gray of Harvey, Callie Reames of Greenwell Springs, Ashley Greber of Bossier City, Jennifer Sledd of Roff, Okla., Cecile Mengue of Morgan City and Amanda Crain of Texarkana, Texas.

Lucky is the daughter of Cole and Jyll Lucky. She is a graduate of St. John's College. Lucky is a freshman family and consumer science major with a concentration in housing and interiors. A member of Phi Mu Fraternity, she is the recipient of an NSU Ambassador's Scholarship. Her platform issue is "Extracurricular Activities equal Academic Achievements.'

Terrell is a freshman journalism major. She is the daughter of Rick and Karen Terrell. A graduate of Natchitoches Central High School, she is a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and a representative at large for the Student Activities Board. Her platform issue is volunteerism.

Gallien, a junior criminal justice/political science major is the daughter of Sammy and Florrie Gallien. She is a graduate of Natchitoches Central High School. Gallien is a Regents' Scholar and has received national awards for minority leadership and has been named to Who's Who. Her platform issue is kids and drugs.

Rohner is a sophomore family and consumer sciences major with an emphasis in fashion merchandising. She is the daughter of James and Mary Rohner. A graduate of Oak Forest Academy, she has been an Honor Roll student at NSU. Rohner has been a Freshman Ambassador and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Her platform issue is "Drug Abuse Resistance Education program focusing on Lower Elementary Education."

Gray is sophomore biology major. She is the daughter of Micheal Gray and Linda Brual. Gray is a graduate of L.W. Higgins High School. She has been active as a public speaker and volunteer. Gray's platform issue is fighting breast cancer.

A sophomore journalism major with a news-editorial emphasis, Reames is the daughter of Huey and Clara Reames. She is a graduate of Central High School. Reames is a Dean's List student. She is a section leader in the Spirit of Northwestern Marching Band, secretary for the NSU rowing team and a reporter for the Northwestern student newspaper, the Current Sauce. Reames is also active in the Baptist Collegiate Ministry. Her platform issue is the rights of adoptees.

Greber is the daughter of Tony and Pam Greber. She is a sophomore nursing major. Greber is a graduate of Airline High School. A member of Phi Mu Fraternity, she served as pledge class secretary. Greber was a Louisiana Regents' Scholar and a member of the National Honor Society. She received the Presidential Spirit of the Community Award. Her platform issue is "Reach Out and Read," an early pediatric literacy program.

Sledd is a freshman nursing major. She is the daughter of Joe Keith and Wendy Sledd. A graduate of Moody High School, she has earned several honors for her community service including being named one of the Top 20 National Youth Volunteers by the March of Dimes. Her platform issue is "H.O.P.E." (Helping Other People Everywhere).

Mengue is a freshman journalism major. She is the daughter of Joshep Olama and Marguerite Diggs. Mengue is a graduate of Terrebonne High and was named all-regional, all-district and all-state MVP in soccer. She was captain of her high school cross country team and was named best all-around athlete in soccer, cross country and track. Her platform issue is "Showing Amazing Multicultural Education" (SAME).

A graduate of Texas High School, Crain is a freshman biology major. She is the daughter of Barry and Diane Crain. She is a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and has served as service chairman and national magazine chairman. Crain has also been active in other campus organizations. She has been a Dean's List student. Her platform issue is "Mentoring Youth."

The pageant winner will receive $5,000 in scholarships and prizes and be eligible to compete in June's Miss Louisiana Pageant in Monroe.
