NATCHITOCHES -Six Northwestern State University graduates have been selected for induction into the NSU Hall of Distinction, the Long Purple Line. This year's honorees include Bossier Parish Community College Chancellor Tom Carleton of Bossier City, Robert Eugene Easley, Ph.D., and Jo Pease of Houston, Brig. Gen (ret.) Curtis Hoglan of Niceville, Fla., Kevin Lynch of Cincinnati, and Speaker of the Louisiana House of Representatives Joe Salter of Florien.

The 2006 inductees will be honored during NSU's Homecoming Activities on Oct. 27-28. Eighty Northwestern alumni have been inducted into the Long Purple Line.

Carleton has been an educator for 39 years with 23 years in administration. He has been chancellor of Bossier Parish Community College since 1994. As chancellor, he oversaw the construction of BPCC's new $56 million campus.

Carleton joined Bossier Parish Community College in 1974 as a social sciences teacher and has served as director of Community Education and vice chancellor of community affairs.

He was a recipient of the (Shreveport) Times Celebrate Leadership Award in 2004 and was named "Business Person of the Year" by the Bossier Chamber of Commerce earlier this year.

Carleton earned a bachelor's degree in social sciences from Northwestern in 1967 and a master's in social sciences in 1974.

A native of Goldonna, Easley received a bachelor's in business from Northwestern in 1962 and a master's in business in 1963. He received a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado in 1988. He is also a graduate of Harvard University's Executive Development Program.

From 1964 until 1998, Easley served at the NASA Johnson Space Center. He was a member of the federal government's Senior Executive Service. While at NASA, Easley was director of Procurement and Contracting, director of the Space Shuttle Procurement Division, director of the Research and Technology Procurement Division and manager of the Cost Analysis Branch. His major awards include the Presidential Rank of Meritorious Executive and the NASA Exceptional Service Medal.

He worked at The Boeing Company Space Exploration Division from 1998 until 2005 as chief of staff to the vice president and general manager and executive advisor to the chief financial officer. For the past year, he was been a member of the graduate faculty in the College of Business at the University of Houston ­ Clear Lake. Easley is a member of the NSU College of Business Hall of Distinction.

Hoglan grew up in Pitkin and received a bachelor's in music education from Northwestern in 1955. That year, he completed the ROTC program and was commissioned as a second lieutenant. He earned a master's in public administration at Shippensburg University.

During a 30-year military career, Hoglan served two tours of duty on the Department of the Army Staff in the Pentagon and also served throughout the United States, Germany, Korea and Vietnam. He was commanding general of V Corps Artillery in Frankfurt, Germany, and the First ROTC Region. Hoglan was an inductee into the NSU ROTC Hall of Fame. His decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, two Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart.

After retiring from the military, Hoglan worked in the field of economic development in Florence County, S.C., and Lafayette.

Lynch is a 1961 graduate of Northwestern, earning a bachelor's degree in political science. He was a sales and marketing executive with Procter and Gamble for 30 years, retiring as a division sales manager.

Lynch was co-founder of the Catholic Men's Fellowship of Greater Cincinnati. He also co-founded the National Fellowship of Catholic Men, serving as the organization's president.

An Army ROTC commissionee, Lynch served as an Infantry Company Commander and earned an Army Commendation Medal. He also served as campaign chairman for Maryland Sen. Francis X. Kelly in 1978.

Lynch established the Annie C. O'Neal Lynch Endowment in honor of his wife at NSU. Half of the funds generated by the endowment provide a scholarship for nursing students while the other half supports student activities at Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Pease, a native of Springhill, graduated from Northwestern with a degree in accounting and business administration. She worked as a legislative aide to U.S. Rep. Joe Waggoner before becoming a lobbyist for Shell.

In the early 1980's, she took a leave of absence from Shell to earn an MBA from the Yale School of Management. Pease rejoined Shell, holding several management positions including treasurer of Shell Offshore Inc. She also obtained a CPA license in 1985.

Pease worked in the area of Business Process Redesign/Reengineering for several years until working in the area of ethics and compliance. She became Shell Oil Company's (U.S.) chief ethics and compliance officer in 2001 and become a leader in the field, serving on the Board of Directors of the Ethics and Compliance Officers Association. Last year, she was honored by Texas Executive Women as one of 10 "Women on the Move" in Houston.

Salter has served as Speaker of the Louisiana House of Representatives since 2004. He is the 62nd Louisiana Speaker of the House and is the first representative from his district to hold the position.

A veteran of the House for 20 years, Salter formerly served on the Board of Aldermen for the Village of Florien. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1986 to fill an unexpired term and was re-elected without opposition to serve his first full term in 1987. He was re-elected in 1991, 1995, 1999 (without opposition), and with 76 percent of the vote in October 2003. Salter has been honored for his public service by groups representing education, public libraries, senior citizens, health care, small businesses and local governments.

Salter is a graduate of NSU, earning a bachelors and master's degree in education. He also did additional post-graduate work at Northwestern. Salter had a distinguished career as an educator, retiring as assistant superintendent of the Sabine Parish School System.
