NATCHITOCHES - Guitarist Luke Brouillette will perform a recital at Northwestern State University Monday, Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.
Brouillette, an instructor of guitar at Northwestern, will play a selection of jazz standards and original compositions. He will be joined by guest performers Joe Williams on bass, Sammy Nix on drums, Galindo Rodriguez on trumpet and Steve Wells on keyboard.
A Natchitoches native, Brouillette began his music career at the age of 10 studying the cello. He performed with the Natchitoches/Northwestern Symphony Orchestra while in high school. He began playing guitar and went on to graduate from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston in 1980. While in Boston, he performed and recorded with a number of area groups as a leader and as a sideman. He began teaching guitar professionally in 1991.
Brouillette returned to Natchitoches in 1993. He was soon hired an instructor of guitar at Northwestern and began playing professionally in jazz and commercial groups as well as with the NSU Jazz Orchestra. Brouillette regularly performs at The Ducournau in Natchitoches as well as other area venues.
