FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES-An exhibit honoring several important civil rights leaders will be on display Feb. 24 through 28 in the Orville Hanchey Art Gallery at Northwestern State University.

The exhibit, "Freedom Fighters of America," is by Marque Nelson, a senior graphics design major from Shreveport and will be in the downstairs gallery.

Nelson's senior exhibit will display graphic art, magazine and CD covers and DVD packages. His work also includes freehand illustrations of civil rights leaders Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Barbara Jordan, Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglas.

"I want to educate people on who these freedom fighters were," said Nelson. "Also, I want people to know what they stood for and what their purpose was."

Nelson will hold an opening reception for his exhibit Monday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. in the Hanchey Gallery.

The Hanchey Gallery is open weekdays from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
