FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES A work by Northwestern State University Professor of Art Michael Yankowski has been accepted for The 32nd Annual Juried Competition at the Masur Museum of Art in Monroe.

Yankowski entered a polychrome wooden construction entitled "Escape Within" into the competition.

"Juried competitions are equivalent to publication in an academic journal
in terms of faculty activity. It demonstrates their creative research," said Yankowski. "Not only does it show that the artist is working in their media, but it also verifies their artistic merit in the eyes of the art world."

Less than 10 percent of works submitted for the competition were accepted. A total of 61 works by 55 artists from 24 states were accepted for the competition from among 637 entries by 230 artists from throughout the United States.

Artist and educator Barbara Grossman selected the entries. Grossman studied at Yale School of Music and Art and Cooper Union, and has received awards including a Fulbright Grant. She has been on the faculty at Western Connecticut State University, Chautauqua Institution, New York Studio School, University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Fine Art, Yale University and Western Carolina University.

The exhibit will be on display March 13 through April 30 at the Masur Museum of Art. Cash prizes totaling $3,200 will be awarded, with $1,000 presented to the work judged to Best in Show.
