NATCHITOCHES - Seven members of the Mathematics Faculty at NSU participated in the Annual Joint Meeting of the American Mathematical Society (AMS) and the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), held in New Orleans from Jan. 10 to 13.

Stan Chadick, Kathleen Chadick, Lisa Galminas, Richard DeVault, Craig Bauer, Melissa Kelly, and Frank Serio attended talks about developmental education, using the Moore Method in the classroom, the use of computers in the classroom, curricular reform in mathematics as well as research talks in their various areas.

Chadick completed his term as Governor of the Louisiana-Mississippi section of the MAA by attending various committee meetings.

Bauer presented a paper " A History of Euler's Theorem with Applications." DeVault presented a paper "On the Recursive Sequence x_(n+1)=p+(x_(n-1)/x_n)." Serio and Chadick also conducted informal interviews as part of their research into the undergraduate mathematics curriculum funded by a grant from the Board of Regents.

The winter meeting of the Association for Symbolic Logic was held in conjunction with the AMS-MAA meeting. Galminas presented the paper "Speed-up Properties and Bounded Query Computations Over Camputably Enumerable Sets" at this meeting.
