FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES -Two of Northwestern State University's faculty will make a presentation on technology in the classroom during the 1999 International Conference on Industry, Engineering and Management Systems.
Dr. Stan Chadick, professor of mathematics, and Dr. Frank Serio, associate professor of mathematics, will attend the conference March 8-10 in Cocoa Beach, Fla., to present their paper entitled "The Impact of Technology on the Classroom: A Convergence of Mathematics and Science Curricula."
The increasing presence of powerful calculators, computers and similar devices in classroom settings has caused content changes in mathematics and science courses, Serio said. Their paper focuses on how those changes have led to modifications in curricula to better explain the connections between theory and application.
In addition to the presentation, Serio will serve as chair of the Simulation and Modeling Track of the conference. This is his second consecutive year to serve in that capacity.
