NATCHITOCHES- Northwestern State University will host its annual Marching Band Contest Saturday, Nov. 9 in Turpin Stadium beginning at 9 a.m. Admission is free and open to the public. Thirty-four bands from Louisiana, Texas and Arkansas are scheduled to participate. Bands will compete in three classes.

Bands in the small classification include Marksville High School, Jena High School, Merryville High School, Iota High School, Bastrop High School and Woodlawn High School. Also in the small classification are Hooks (Texas) High School, LaSalle High School, Beckville (Texas) High School, Alto (Texas) High School, Gurdon (Ark.) High School and Sam Houston High School.

The medium classification includes Jennings High School, Grant High School, DeRidder High School, Haughton High School, Carencro High School, Hope (Ark.) High School, North Vermilion High School, Bossier High School, Natchitoches Central High School, Leesville High School, Pineville High School and Erath High School.

Large classification bands include Tioga High School, Barbe High School, Terrebonne High School, West Monroe High School and Jasper (Texas) High School. Also in the large classification are Parkway High School, Lafayette High School, Dayton (Texas) High School, Cleburne (Texas) High School and Ruston High School.

The "Spirit of Northwestern" Marching Band will perform at 6:15 p.m. with the awards ceremony set for 6:30 p.m.

Judges for the contest include Robert Fleming of Arizona State University, Travis Ancelet of LBJ High School in Austin and Tom Shine, Duncanville High School in Duncanville, Texas, Chris McHenry of Canton, Texas, Matt Garrett of Mesquite High School in Mesquite, Texas and Daniel Collins of Northwestern State.
