FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES - U. S. Rep. Jim McCrery will visit the Natchitoches campus of Northwestern State University Thursday Aug. 16.

McCrery will visit the University College in Room 239 of Kyser Hall at 2:30 p.m. to learn about Northwestern's TRIO program. The TRIO Dissemination Partnership Program partners NSU with community colleges to develop ways to target at-risk students in order to improve access to education, as well as increase student retention and completion.

At 3:15 p.m., he will go to the Louisiana Creole Heritage Center in Room 116 of Kyser Hall. The Creole Heritage Center promotes, fosters, and engages in activities and endeavors that relate to Louisiana Creoles and their culture. The Center also serves as an office of support to Louisiana and national Creole communities and organizations, offering advice and assistance in matters that affect Creoles.

McCrery will then go to Nelson Hall, the home of the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training, for an update on the Historic American Buildings Survey team, the Cane River National Heritage Area and the NCPTT.

Northwestern President Dr. Randall J. Webb and his wife Brenda will host a reception for McCrery at 4:30 p.m. in the Orville Hanchey Art Gallery. The Gallery is located in the new wing of the A.A. Fredericks Center for Creative and Performing Arts.

The reception is open to the public.
