NATCHITOCHES -Dr. Jim McCrory has been named director of Information Systems at Northwestern State University. McCrory will provide technological leadership and direction for the university's administrative information systems. The Division of Information Systems falls under the Dean of Graduate Studies, Research and Information Systems as does Office of Electronic Learning Systems, the administration of student technology fee and the Office of Telecommunications.
McCrory has more than 30 years of technical and managerial experience with information systems. He has performed a broad spectrum of automation and telecommunications activities to include project management, system engineering, planning, budgeting and development of detailed system requirements and specifications. McCrory also has experience in software development and maintenance, operation of computer and communications systems and facilities and catastrophic failure planning. His experience also includes contract management, management of personnel and fiscal resources, configuration management, network management, communications and computer security, and providing training on new equipment and systems.
A graduate of Northwestern, McCrory holds a bachelor's and master's in electronic engineering technology as well as a Doctorate of Education in Educational Technology from NSU, He also holds a master's in information systems from Strayer University in Washington, D.C. He is also a graduate of U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the Armed Forces Staff College.
In 1968, McCrory was commissioned from Northwestern's ROTC program and spent more than 23 years on active duty in the U.S. Army. A Vietnam veteran, he also served in Thailand, Germany, and Belgium.
McCrory received military awards and decorations including the Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star, Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters) and Joint Service Commendation Medal. He also earned an Army Commendation Medal (with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Vietnamese Armed Forces Honor Medal (1st Class), and the Royal Thai Supreme Command Headquarters (Forward) Badge (1st Class).
Since retiring from the Army in 1992, McCrory has worked as a senior systems engineer on several defense contracts for command and control systems in Germany and the Washington, D.C. area.
