FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATCHITOCHES - Scholars from throughout the United States will discuss the world of Shakespeare, Chaucer and western Europe of the period when Northwestern State University hosts The Third Annual Conference of the Louisiana Consortium of Medieval and Renaissance Scholars Oct. 21-22.
The Consortium is designed to promote the fostering of dialogue among scholars from state universities, private institutions, and community colleges in Louisiana, as well as scholars from out of state for the development of Medieval and Renaissance studies at the local, national and international levels.
Researchers in languages, history and music will present their work on Saturday Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
"The papers are designed to show a continuity between the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the post-Renaissance period," said Professor of Classics Jean D'Amato of the Louisiana Scholar's College at Northwestern. "Many think that the Renaissance just bloomed in the 14th or 15th century. But recent studies have shown a dependency on the traditions of the earlier period."
NSU faculty members Kent Hare, Rondo Keele, Helaine Razovsky and Lisa Wolffe will present papers at the conference. D'Amato will present an exhibition of 16th and 17th century engravings of sites in Southern Italy. Each of the NSU faculty members will also chair sessions at the conference.
Scholars from Louisiana State University, the University of
Southern California, the University of Alabama, Nicholls State
University, Southeastern Louisiana University, the University
of Louisiana at Lafayette, the University of Louisiana at Monroe
and Southeastern Oklahoma State University are scheduled to deliver
papers at the conference.
