NATCHITOCHES -Northwestern State University will host the fourth conference of the Louisiana Consortium of Medieval and Renaissance Scholars Oct. 13-14 on NSU's Natchitoches campus. The conference is co-sponsored by Northwestern's School of Social Sciences, the Department of Language and Communication and the Louisiana Scholars' College with additional support from NSU's College of Liberal Arts.
The Consortium was originally formed to encourage dialogue about the Middle Ages and Renaissance among scholars of all institutions of higher learning in Louisiana.
The conference is open to the public. Registration is $25 per person and $15 for students which includes the opening reception at 6 p.m. on Friday Oct. 13 and lunch the next day.
Registration will also be held on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 8 a.m. A plenary session commemorating the 940th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings begins at 8:30 a.m. Scholarly sessions will be held from 9 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. until 4:15 p.m. in Morrison Hall. Presentations will focus on subjects, including literature, history, art, and music. Lunch will be served in the courtyard of Morrison Hall from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m.
Northwestern faculty Dr. Kent Hare and Dr. Gary Bodie along with student Jennifer Jarnigan will be involved in the presentations. Hare will moderate the session on the Battle of Hastings. Bodie will make a presentation, "Honor and the Social Code: Agreements in 'Pwyll, Prince of Dyfed.'" Jarnigan will discuss "Vergil the Witch King."
