FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATCHITOCHES -A new endowed scholarship for chemistry majors has been established at Northwestern State University. The Monday Endowed Scholarship was set up by a gift from Charles Monday of Corpus Christi, a 1936 graduate of State Normal College (now Northwestern State). The gift was made to the NSU Foundation.

Monday, a retired executive with Amoco, was a student of Dr. Joe Webb, a chemistry faculty member whose son, Dr. Randall J. Webb is now Northwestern's president.

A native of Vivian, Monday met his wife, the former Dorothy Bryan, a Jonesboro native, while attending college.

"My wife, daughter and daughter-in-law were all teachers. I thought this scholarship could show strong support for public education," said Monday. "I hope this will make it easier for students to obtain an education."

While he was a student, Monday worked in the library and in the chemistry lab. He spent his senior year as Dr. Joe Webb's lab assistant.

Monday was hired by Amoco as a chemist and became a plant manager. The Mondays have two children and five grandchildren.

"Northwestern is grateful to Mr. Monday for his generous gift that will positively impact many students," said Dr. Randall J. Webb. "I am so pleased that one of my father's former students remembered both the institution and the subject area he loved so much."

Criteria for the scholarship will be established.
